Been out of the loop for the last week; I've been on a lightning-fast tour of Italy with Mama. Had a wonderful (and busy) time and am feeling recharged and pretty damned good, despite getting significantly less sleep than I should have...
( Boring wah about art and wank and OMG THE HEART OF THE IMPERIUM eh what? )
( Boring wah about art and wank and OMG THE HEART OF THE IMPERIUM eh what? )
The world has a habit of tearing the rug out from under your feet just when you least expect it, and this weekend certainly fulfilled what I would consider the criteria for sudden carpet displacement.
I still can't really get my head round it. I'm not even at the 'reeling at the implications' stage yet. There's nothing but cold, crushing inevitability ahead.

This made it all better...

Weird dream...
Mar. 31st, 2009 08:55 amPosting about dreams might be just about the least interesting thing you can possibly do on whinejournal. Whining itself is probably more interesting, because you can at least laugh at it. Dreams, however, are entirely subjective and made entirely out of 'you had to be there'. Still, this horrified me enough that I felt obliged to share.

Mar. 21st, 2009 11:54 pmWell, haven't posted here for a while.
So..what's the topic today, kids? A-thinly veiled rant? No! A bitchfest? No! A whinefest? No! Surely it cannot be? This is the point of whinejournal, is it not?
( Nah )

24_hour_techiegave me T for Theresa and Tentacles
1. Celldweller - The Last Firstborn
When I'd finished my last exam, I blinked upon stepping outside into the light, lingered a brief moment surrounded by enthusiastically chatting coursemates and then wandered home in a daze - and as I did so, this song came on my MP3 player. I dare you not to love the chorus - sends chills down my spine every time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oWxIsp7yis&feature=related
2. Bal-Sagoth - The Dreamer Within The Catacombs Of Ur
Glorious band, glorious song. These guys are well worth a listen. You'll either desperately reach for the 'stop' button or fall in love with them immediately.
(Sadly, there isn't a video on Youtube for this one)
3. Loreena Mckennitt - The Mummer's Dance
Loreena Mckennitt really is incredible - her music takes you straight to another world where you can close your eyes and thoroughly enjoy every beautiful second, being both relaxed and energised simultaneously. The Mummer's Dance is one of her more lively pieces, full of atmosphere.
(Link is to the original version, which I actually prefer, rather than the 'rock version') http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B7sH5QLyXY&feature=related
4. Breeder - Twilo Thunder
On an old trance CD of mine there is this tantalising glimpse of a track. It only lasts a short while, mixed as it is between two others. You only get about a minute and a half, all told. But what you get is more than enough. Now, due to the wonders of the internet, I can listen to the whole thing. It's as good as I remember...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQHQ1GD8S6M
5. The Unquiet Grave
This song has entranced me for as long as I've been able to remember. When my mum used to play it, I'd listen on in horrified amazement when it began to talk of lingering lovers and ghosts speaking from beyond the veil of death.

May. 19th, 2008 12:17 pmSo, EOS then.
I'm home, I'm slept and I'm significantly less green. My legs still don't work all that well but I put that down to repeatedly running up and down that hill all weekend.
( Cut for length, 'let me tell you about my character' and possibly a tiny bit of minor and now irrelevent FOIP )
All in all, awesome event. Fantastic mix of intrigue, violence and politicking. The plot was interesting and while eventually coming to kick you in the arse, never felt too intrusive - there was space for plenty of other stuff as well. I also get the feeling that things could have gone a completely different way if we'd pushed other buttons. The general feel is that you're given a sandbox to play in, and the plot comprises buckets, spades and bricks that you are free to push around as you see fit - it's up to you whether you smack yourself or someone else in the face with them.
It amuses me greatly that the majority of the same group ended up dying to the same orks and being dragged to the same tent and eaten for food, as per last time. Haha. Now I need to work out what I'm doing next...I have a feeling it'll be elf-shaped, but very differently elf-shaped.

What D&D Character are you?
Dec. 17th, 2007 07:04 pmI Am A: Neutral Good Human Sorcerer (2nd Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength-11
Dexterity-15
Constitution-12
Intelligence-12
Wisdom-11
Charisma-15
Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.
Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class:
Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

How I've managed to not get 'Chaotic' I do not know. The rest kinda works though.
