Wow, that was good. Really, really good. Much, much better than I was expecting or daring to hope for. Got more consistent high-quality RP (including the most epic and cinematic angstfest circle-prowling shouting match *ever*) than I probably did at the last three main events put together. Jumping at one's own shadow is immense fun. Jumping at shadows that turn into greatsword wielding angels is even more fun! Curiously achieved a great deal more IC than we'd have done if we had turned up in force. Great stuff. Didn't get to speak to 90% of the characters on site - but that's expected. The ones I did get to speak to were awesome incarnate, and made it more than worthwhile.

1- Verity: "I have looked fear in the eyes. I have faced my inner demons, and I will continue to do so as long as I still draw breath. I do not fear death, I fear life that is without purpose and meaning. I fear to fail in my duty. I fear to deny truth and honour. I fear that one day I will look fear in the eyes and feel *nothing*"

2- Aestar: "Fear? Do not make me laugh, mortal. You ask *me* of fear? You ask she who has existed since the beginning, who has watched the rise and fall of civilisations, has watched the great nations of this world drag themselves from humble beginnings into towering spires of achievement and down cavernous abyssal pits of despair? I have watched an entire world plead in fear to their gods for deliverance from the predations of demons. I have watched my kind tear each other apart and hurl their former brothers into the abyss because they were too afraid to question the orders of their masters. I have seen the greatest fear -that of the unknown, of the very real possibility of the end of one's pitiful existence- in the face of every man, woman and child I have ever delivered from this world. And I have known that fear myself, every time I am sent back to that cold, empty abyss. It is all consuming. You're trying to shout at your bastard squadmates to pick you up but they think you're already dead and you can't do anything and they're all like 'oh no, she's dead' and I'm like 'no, you fuckers, I'm not!' and suddenly you can't help but laugh at how ridiculously fucked up it is... except that you can't laugh because you don't have lungs anymore... Argh!"

But do not ever laugh in the face of love. It can bring down the stars from the heavens, make the seas boil and rend the world asunder. Trite, yes. But painfully true. Love drives us just as mad as its counterpart."

1- Verity: "There's nothing like a nice hot pot of stew. Just like the good old days. After being out on maneuvers for three nights in a row, you didn't really care *what* you got - but coming back to a warm bowl of stew made it all worthwhile."
2- Aestar: "My soul endures beyond your mortal constraints. I need not sustainance or slumber. I am eternal. *grins* Though I'm rather partial to lightly steamed Avian."
3- Lilith: "Pizza. Lots of ham, pineapple, anchovies and chili peppers. Tastes so good. Don't know what I'd do if I was tasting the world through someone *else's* taste buds. Probably freak even more than now!"

We have faith so that we need not be accountable for the horrors we commit in the name of another. I have dared to step outside empty faith, and so am hunted down and destroyed by those who are ruled by hate."

3- Lilith: "Hmm, faith...can't exactly say I worship anything, it's more like keeping a calm and respectful distance away from the great random at all times. Bastard"

4- "Sir Alan": "My faith in the lord is my shield, the armour within which I clad my soul, the fuel for my fire and the weapon with which I fight god's war against the threat of heresy."

5- Dura: "I believe that if I'm nice to people they will be nice back to me and tell stories of all the good things I have done."

6- Princess Allaya/Sara: "Argh, all those stupid warfare-based religions mercilessly persecuting everyone! I'm so glad I'm an atheist! I just can't see how anyone could follow religion when it's *obviously* so stupid!"

how will they die?

1- Verity: Face-to-face with the most terrible abomination that ever lived, locked in a final death-grip as with my last breath I twist my blade one final time and shatter its black, burning heart. That is how I should *like* to meet my end. I expect my actual death will be slightly less noble and dramatic. But I can always try...

2- Aestar: I seem to "die" every day, the discorporation of my form has become such an expected and even necessary occurence that it barely even gives me pause for thought. But, of course, you mean *that* kind of death, the death of the soul? How do you rend the immortal, immutable and eternal and make it expendable, inconsequential and impotent? I know. And it is more horrible that you could imagine. But such words are not for you to hear. Enough of such things. Until I have exhausted every opportunity, followed every path and fought every last battle, I will endure. The day I stop fighting is the day I surrender myself to oblivion.

3- Lilith: "Yeah, yeah, it's not like anyone lives forever. I'll probably get shot in the head by some lucky little bastard with a las rifle that just happens to get through a small crack in the visor of my helmet, or whatever. Live fast, die young and leave a corpse that can't even be identified by dental records!"

4- "Sir Alan": "When the lord has determined that my time has come, I will die. But it is my choice how I meet that end."

5- Dura: "Dura won't die. Dura can't die. Don't worry, it would take a very very big rock to squish me!"

6- Princess Allaya/Sara: "Erm, apparently I'm immortal. It's so cool. Whenever I die I just wake up at home. Well, somewhere near it. Of course, I'm kinda naked when it happens...but hey"

7- Alaris: "My chosen path takes me closer to the hideous, the barbaric and the monstrous than any of my kind should rightly be. At every moment I live upon a knife-edge. To die to murderers, pirates or aliens is still death, but as long as I have my Waystone by my side always, I will be safe. Only the daemon should be feared, for to die to a daemon is to be enslaved and tortured forever. I would hope...no, pray...that to when my death comes it will be swift and final, and that my Waystone is to hand."

What is the best way to serve your master?

1- Verity Clarimonde: Do not injustice to another. Defend the weak and the innocent. Let truth and honour always guide you. Let courage find a light within. Stand up when no-one else is willing. Act not in hatred or in spite. Be unto this world as a perfect knight - even if it means your life. *sob*

2- Aestar the Defiler: Master? I no longer have a true master - I was rended from them when I dared to seize destiny in my own hands and empower myself. There are others to whom I would afford my allegiance, but such is a matter of necessity rather than a desire to serve. It is always the same, regardless of to whom I attach myself anyway - though the name or intent changes, my task is always to gather the souls of the lost and the damned and bring them to their end within the maelstrom. I am a merely a vector - a transport mechanism - and I serve entropy above all else. I wish there were another way.

3- Lilith: To fight when I'm told to, to die when I'm told to, to not question and to not give a damn about whether it's right or wrong.

4- "Sir Alan": To keep a clear mind and a pious heart, to unflinchingly and unswervingly follow the word and to protect the souls of the righteous from the predations of the prince of hate.

5- Dura: Work work work. Work all day and work all night and when I'm sleepy, sleep!

6- Princess Allaya/Sara: Ermm. I don't think I have a master. Unless it's the Book of Immortals. It would all be easier if I had a master to follow, really - it's so hard to know what to do!

7- Alaris: I serve my people, the craftworld and all that stands against the devourer. But tempered with this unquestioning service is the fact that I am acutely aware each and every eldar is precious and integral to our survival. I should not blindly throw myself at the enemy - I should watch and wait and understand before making a move. I benefit no-one by dying meaninglessly. But dying to cleanse a world, stop an invasion or destroy an army? That is a price I will pay if I must.

8- Shar'Grikan: I don't have a master. Silly people serve others. I serve myself.

1- Verity Clarimonde: "What? I may have strayed from the path but I have never been guilty of such charges as these! Why would you accuse me of such a thing? I accuse you, vile accuser! Your allegations clearly bely your dark intent. You wish to undermine me and bring me low in the eyes of others. Demon..."

2- Aestar the Defiler: "Oh, I'm definitely guilty as charged. I turned from the light, and from that point necessity dictated I do what I have to. In many ways I regret it. But I do not deny it. What are you going to do about it? Destroy me? Set me free from the bounds of this world? You set up a wall of impenetrable hate so you do not have to consider the meaning behind the words I speak."

3- Lilith: "You what? Not another crazed nutjob... Fuck off and die!"

4- "Sir Alan": "You accuse me of heresy, of blasphemy? Then I will stand and defend myself, and my true faith in the lord will show my accusers the error of their judgement."

5- Dura: "Don't call me names. That's mean! I haven't done anything wrong"

6- Princess Allaya/Sara: "Yeah, well, what's the competition? Two weeks ago I found out I was an immortal princess of the elves. That's something I can believe in, weirdly."

7- Alaris: "We have been through this many times, Inquisitor. I do not seek to undermine your faith - merely to allow you to see that you do not have to pursue one thing obsessively to the exclusion of all else. I do not deny the power of your emperor - I merely ask you to consider that there was once a world without him and that he is not the single defining factor in the fight against the ruinous powers."
