17 Character Questions

Haven't posted for a while. Have been roused out of LJ-slumber by a larptastic meme of larptasticness.

There's probably FOIP here. Probably. Usual warnings, disclaimers, whatever.

Aestar

1. What would your character kill for? What would they die for?
What would I kill for? You must understand that I do not kill. I dispatch. To dispatch is to simply end a life that must be ended. Empty, mechanical, devoid of guilt and full of self denial. I take no pleasure in dispatching those who have reached the end of their lives. What's the point if you cannot make it personal, and act with the full knowledge that you are destroying something beautiful? That's murder. And I avoid that where possible, lest I enjoy it too much.

What would I die for? I die all the time, merely for existing. What would I die for if I had the choice? Idiotic, irrational feelings. Love. Guilt. Every moment of weakness.

2. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances? Why?
Honestly? Despite my wishes to the contrary: Sit back, relax, enjoy the fruits of my endeavour and let the world pass me by. I've come to realise that I just can't let things lie. Always have to push. Always have to cause trouble. Your life ends the day you stop fighting to survive. Strangely enough, I've found a god who feels precisely the same way. We seem to have hit it off rather well.

3. What do they dream about? [Either literal or figurative].
Dreams? I used to dream of a world where all can live in harmony together, enjoying the fruits of their endeavour and working together for the good of all. It was wonderful. Then I dreamed of revenge, of laying waste to all of creation, of bloodsoaked fields and slaughterhouses, of a tyrannical world free from one flavour of tyranny but deep in the sway of another. Now I dream of both.

4. What’s their biggest fear?
Letting myself repeat the mistakes of the past again and again for all eternity. I know it will happen. I watch it happening through someone else's eyes, powerless to stop myself. If I could cut this weakness out of myself, I would do. But I know I never will, because secretly, I enjoy watching history repeat itself.

5. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why?
Very few objects are sacred to me - most have been lost to the ravages of time, or slipped through my fingers despite my best efforts. Few remain that are not a part of me.

6. What is their fondest memory?
Walking soft velvet-tipped fingers up the base of a young woman's spine back in old Fidelia and watching her giggle and smile in response - and, for the first time, not move to brush me aside. Knowing that you can reach out and affect the life of another and, for a time, set the world apart.

7. What is their worst memory?
*Sighs*. Nothing is perpetual and certain, other than oblivion.

8. What or who was were their most significant influence? Expound.
Mardocai gave me the strength to stand firm in the face of terrible injustice. He showed me what lies at the end of the road that is blind, unshakeable duty. Loyal and utterly single-minded, he stands as an inspiration and a lesson for us all. I'll never forgive him.

Kamir showed me what lies at the heart of the greatest men. In every way a true and perfect warrior, he was brave, just, strong and almost unshakeable. Almost. Every man has his flaws.

Lydia showed me the joy to be found in making another smile and feel genuinely loved. She showed me the deepest depths and the highest highs of the darkness and light that lies within me. She was a mirror, displaying and reflecting everything I loved and hated within myself.

As for the rest; Look harder.

9. What do they believe makes a successful life?
Knowing when to say yes, despite yourself. Knowing when to say no, despite yourself. Reaching out, but never reaching too far. Balance.

As a counterpoint; Knowing when to close your eyes, take a step forward and trust in blind intuition and faith to guide you.

10. What makes them laugh?
When people desperately want something and struggle and strain to get it but fail to realise that their feet are still chained to the wall.

11. What are their religious views?
I never understood why mortals are so obsessed with this image of the Gods being a lovely, benevolent pantheon of happy friendly people in the sky.

The Gods do not love you. The Gods do not hate you. The Gods do not give a shit about pathetic, insignificant little you and your feelings so long as you do not bother them. If you whine enough, your God might do something in order to shut you up. So go on, piss and whine and cry out for help. God will answer, eventually. God will deliver you from your pain. Or perhaps, God will watch you and laugh and throw bricks at you. His brothers certainly will.

It's your responsibility to learn how to dodge. Good luck. Eventually, he might reward you for doing so. Or, he might just send more bricks.

They may not give a shit about you, but admit it or not, they need you. So long as you're happy to throw away your life and hand over your soul at the end, God is happy. So, who feels like a nice little War to get the blood -and souls- flowing?

12. What is their greatest strength?
Being able to say yes, when I mean no. Being able to say no, when I mean yes. Being able to keep saying yes - most of the time.

13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so, what is it?
Guilt. Sentimentality. A desire to do what is nice, rather than what is right. Call me an Idealist, but deep down I'd rather not be a monster. This desire seems to get me into trouble with alarming regularity.

14. Who is the most important person in their life?
What a perfectly ridiculous question.

15. If they died or went missing, who would miss them most?
I sincerely doubt anyone would genuinely miss my passing from this world. I'm fairly sure quite a few would breathe sighs of relief. Most of them would be on my own side.

16. How would they describe themselves?
Aestar, Angel of Light, Herald of the Earthquake, Voice of the Gods. I bring the will of the divine to the faithful, punishment to the wayward and reward to the blessed. Oh, is it not wonderful to be able to say that? I have a place now; A place where I can serve not as a slave devoid of opportunity, but where I have willingly chosen my own path.

17. How would others describe them?
Cowardly, sadistic, pathetic, jealous, vindictive, hateful, self-loathing, directionless, conniving, pathologically lying demon. I've no illusions as to how I am viewed by others.
